As reminded by 1 John 4:29, “We love because He first loved us.” Therefore, all we do as
believers flows from gratitude to God. FHPC strives to be a welcoming and inclusive community,
as we grow in ministry and mission for Jesus Christ. We promote the involvement of the
congregation in missions beyond itself at all levels — community, metropolitan, state, national,
and global; and in missions conducted through the programs of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
As God’s disciples – Christians known by our love — each of us is meant to be a local missionary,
right here, right now.
FHPC is grateful to God for the mission work over the years by individual church members and friends, including:
Local Mission
Contributing items year-round:
- Canned and packaged foods for the church’s Little Food Pantry at the corner of
Forest Hill Avenue & 44th Street
Contributing items in designated months:
- Personal items for ACTS Care Bags for those in financial crisis and to prevent
homelessness - Cleaning supplies, paper goods, and sheets for Housing Families First (aka Hilliard House), to combat homelessness of families and their children
- Back-to- school supplies for our sister church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, to help children in the area
- Canned and dry foods for the Thanksgiving Ingathering to support the food pantry of our sister church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church) and fight hunger
- Hats, gloves, scarves, and other warm clothing items for our Mitten Tree to support the clothes closet of our sister church, Eastminster Presbyterian Church
Contributing to special offerings:
- Good Samaritan Fund for one-time gifts to local individuals in need
- One Great Hour of Sharing for disaster, refugee, and hunger resources (Palm or Easter Sunday)
- Pentecost Offering for children at risk, youth and young adult ministries (May)
- Fannie Pharr Memorial Scholarship Fund for temporary partial tuition payments for Child Care Center parents who are suffering hardships
- Jim Irving Memorial Offering in honor of our veterans’ families at Fisher Guest
House of Richmond’s McGuire VA - Peacemaking Offering on World Communion Sunday
- Christmas Joy Offering to assist retired church workers and spouses (December,
the Sunday before Christmas)
